Active Chapter

Active Chapter is a Brooklyn, NYC publishing and art collective. We publish words in print and on everyday and fine art objects, proliferating theory, cultural mythologies, and the work of emerging and underrepresented writers and queer artists of color.

    Edition 1: Perverts

Peeking through your window, rotting in a bedroom teeming with clutter, rubbing each other by the pier, undressing onstage, watching mukbangs under the covers, hanging out your back pocket—perverts are all around us. Perverts are among us. Perverts are us. We are obsessive, maladjusted, hungry.

But who gets called a pervert? How has this term been used to other and criminalize people? How can we reclaim it? Or should we reclaim it? What are the ethics of perversion?

In our second journal, Edition 1: Perverts, we bring together a collection of essays, poems, short fiction, drama, and visual art that grapple with what perversion is, and through the lens of two characters, Libertine and Receiver, explore what it means to be a pervert.

In the Mood For Love: an anthology of love stories from Chinatown

In the Mood for Love is a collection of art and writing about love by elders and teens in Chinatown. Through weekly workshops led by members of Active Chapter, elders and teens shared their feelings about friendship, romance, and family through collage, drawing, writing, and oral stories.

    Edition 0

Our beloved Edition 0! We gathered these pieces from our friends, former lovers, and childhood best friends. We wanted, not only to gather their thoughts on love, but to gather our loved ones together, to see their passions materialized, congealed, brought together in the union of a collective.

    Active Chapter

We are an art & publishing collective, and we like you and we love you and we need you!

We believe in community through friendship, and knowledge through community. We publish words not only in print, but on everyday and fine art objects. We want words in your kitchen and your bathroom and your car (if you have one) and on your body and head and feet! Our work focuses on collecting and archiving community stories that are often overlooked–especially important to us as queer artists of color. As artists and educators, we strive for accessibility both in publishing and distribution—rethinking what it means to “publish” and pushing the boundaries of what a “book” can be.

Active Chapter was founded in 2024 by artists Eka Savajol, Lucia Mumma, Max Chu, and XY Zhou. Web design by Liam Tsang.

We just wrapped up Edition 1 of our Journal: Perverts. You should check it out! Stay tuned for more in 2026 :P
